Since then, Sacramento Dancesport’s competitive dancers have taken championship titles in almost every competition they have entered, from the World Federation of Same-Sex Dancing Championships in Europe to the 5-Boro Challenge in New York City to the Gay Games in Chicago. Sacramento Dancesport also produces annual shows. Some feature student work, some bring visiting professional dancers to share the stage. All have the goal of bringing the community together through creating and experiencing gay art. In addition, Sacramento Dancesport dancers have performed the world over, from small gay bars to large venues in the United States, Europe and Australia.
Sacramento Dancesport has expanded upon its original mission of teaching dance to the gay community. Through a grant from Bank of America, Sacramento Dancesport provided dance lessons to low-income youth at one of the Sacramento Mutual Housing Association communities. We have also donated our skills and held “dance teach-a-thons” to benefit local organizations, most recently including the American Leadership Forum. Today, Sacramento Dancesport dancers still teach weekly classes aimed at reaching the gay community and bringing people together through dance. All are welcome in their classes whatever their dance goals, and no matter the number of left feet. To learn more, from our home page, click on “classes.”
