Community Matters.

At Sacramento Dancesport, we are dedicated to giving back to our community.

Projects

Fundraiser for Dr. Genevieve Manzo & The NorCal AIDS Challenge

In April, 2009, The Sacramento Dancesport Project offered reduced-rate private lessons with the proceeds benefitting the NorCal AIDS Challenge

The NorCal AIDS Challenge is an almost completely volunteer-produced event, benefitting inland Northern California HIV/AIDS service providers.

We are proud to have supported Dr. Manzo in her fundraising goal of $2,500.  She will complete the four-day, 330 mile ride in May of 2009.

Fundraiser for Wendy Rae Hill & the American Leadership Forum

In January, 2009, The Sacramento Dancesport Project held a dance teach-a-thon to help Wendy Rae Hill raise her tuition for the American Leadership Forum (ALF).  All proceeds -- nearly $1,000 -- from the lessons went directly to ALF.

ALF is a national, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization created to bring together leaders to act in the public interest.  Their goal is to encourage leaders from different sectors (business, government, education, nonprofit and labor) as well as across boundaries of ethnicity, gender and geography to work collaboratively for the well being of their communities.  Fellows engage in a year long program exploring in depth the complex challenges facing today’s leaders.

Thanks to everyone that made this event such a huge success!

Classes for Underprivileged Kids

In 2008, under a grant from Bank of America, the Sacramento Dancesport Project provided dance lessons to underprivileged kids via the Sacramento Mutual Housing Association (SMHA).

A non-profit organization, SMHA makes housing affordable by developing and operating strong, stable residential communities. Through voluntary participation and leadership development, residents run governing councils at each property, make up the majority of the SMHA board of directors and are involved in virtually every aspect of the organization.

This was a great project last year, and one that is ramping up to begin again in 2009.  Stay tuned.

Donations to Local Organizations

Over the years, the Sacramento Dancesport Project has donated gift certificates and lesson packages to a wide variety of community organizations -- from the Capital Political Action Committee (CAPPAC) to the King Hall Legal Foundation (KHLF) to the UC Davis Women's Resource Center V-Day international spotlight campaign for women.
